My hubby told me that people with TC serizures have a heart rate around 180, during a seizure. The last time I was at the hospital the doc obbserved me and said my heart rate wasn't in the danger zone, during a seizure. When my hubby told me that I felt like again the doctors wount beleave me. I guess mine gos in the 130-140s. Just because mine doesn't go as high as it should, do you think the doctors don't think there real?

Mine went up into that range during my last seizure - or when they got my heart rate after the seizure. 180 is pretty darn high... the only time mine gets that high is if I'm running really fast. Maybe it's in the 180 range DURING the seizure, and not after? When your heart rate was taken in the hospital, had you all ready finished the seizure?

I don't think the doctors go by heart rate when they're diagnosing seizures -- it's not a consistent marker, and there can be a lot of variation from person to person. About half of those having generalized seizures have some increase in heart rate, but it can be an increase as little as 10 beats per minute.

I haven't heard of this being a factor in diagnosing seizures either, more something they want to monitor in case other things are going wrong.

A heart rate over 180 is pretty serious and could be one cause of SUDEP.

When Jon was in ICU in 2011, his heart rate was going up to 180 to 200 during tonic/clonics, and setting off the code. His oxygen rate was also dipping down to 50's and 60's for a couple minutes, then up to 80's range (had to be put on oxygen for several days).

But as he began to recover, his seizures weren't as severe, and his heart just rose to about 150 or so. But I think a child's heartbeat is faster than an adults.
