How long can a person stay on Levitiracetam (Keppra)?

Supposedly it has little long term effects on the human body, but it seems like a lot of people have bad side effects from it and need to switch to something else. My neurologist told me I'd likely have to take it for the rest of my life, as long as it keeps working, so I guess that's a pretty good indicator that it is meant to be a long term type of medication.
