I've been on short-term disability since August, and the insurance company my employer uses covers short term for 90 days, so mine runs out in about two weeks.

My neurologist wants me out of work until late November, which placed me into the long-term disability category, but I just found out that my claim would be denied since my epilepsy is considered "preexisting".

This doesn't make any sense, because if they knew it was preexisting when they approved me for short term, wouldn't they approve me for long term?

Has anyone had this happen to them?

skyfire,

If your neuro as stated he wants you out of work till late November that will go against you for a start off.

Regarding short and long time disability it's mainly down to how many you have and to the extent you have them...if your in the states it's been known where fighting for disability for seizures and other issues can extent upto 3yrs and solicitors have to be involved to make a good case but what helps even better is having a good neuro backing you up besides other specialists who are involved.

Here in the UK it works similar regarding being judged or the paperwork you fill in besides good specialists backing you but you don't have the trouble of insurance etc.
