Who\what does it for you? I'm really curious to know what you guys listen to if you want to feel better? Sure, there's favorite songs\artists, but what is it about their music that makes you feel better?...melody?...tempo?...lyrics?...bass notes?:lol:

I've been searching mega-leads on research projects out there involving music\auditory stimuli and the epileptic brain. Check out the links posted in this thread...there is good stuff out there.

But I like most of what you've listed. I like live music when I can catch it, if its good.

I finally purchased the book "Musicophilia" by Dr. Sacks. I have not read very far, but I am also not as (?) impressed as I hoped to be.

I have not been on the forum for many days. A number of reasons.
My musical tastes range far and wide: "Classical" if you want to call it that-from the 1200's (a local vocal ensemble performs very early / pre-1600 music often), I have CD's of vocal music from the 1400's and I love it. I prefer music up to about 1775 (just picked a year out of thin air) and then again about 1880. I am not fond of Mozart (so shoot me), but I like Haydn (Bach and Haydn were craftsmen---they WORKED at composing. Mozart's music came off the end of his fingertips.
With the major exception of Brahms, much of the 19th century is so-so. Brahms (ANY thing he wrote) is my desert island composer.
Then the really substantive 20th century composers I like. There are too many to list here. And all of these guys and girls (quite a few good women composers) have composed music of all types. Music when your happy, sad, confused, angry, whatever you want.

I also like a great deal of New Age which encompasses a great deal of sounds. Jazz-yes,
older rock-yes, (I am past 50!). I like to listen to things I have never heard before.

...but it's mainly due to the fact the book does not specifically concentrate on eplilepsy. Still an interesting read....and I DO believe there's a connection----simply because I believe music(certain auditory stimulus) can have a profound effect on individuals if the circumstances are right!

I used to sell tons of CD's ....
on eBay during our heydays,
like files attracted to a picnic!

People would fight and bid like
crazy! When I was married my
ex would get these wholesale
down the road, and all I did was
list them (under one of the many
ID's we had) and we would have
as many as 20-30 people fighting
for a CD. All I had to do was put
it for 1 cent and back off, and
wrap it up and on the lower bottom
write the CD name, our return
label and wait 7 days for the auction
to end, and to say they could have
gotten it cheaper at the store!

But we weren't complaining! It
was a lot of fun! Country, Classic,
Oldies, Original Rock, New Rock,
Heavy Metal, all kinds, whatever
my ex would grab, I just listed it
after scanning the front and
back and the image would be
so big where people could see
what they were getting and the
songs that were on it. I didn't
even need to type anything on
it. You could see it was wrapped,
sealed, unopened, etc. The only
then was, we had a "No Return
Policy - Once opened - Can't
Return it." But we had no complaints
and tons of repeat customers, the
more they buy, the cheaper the
shipping was (since I shipped via
media mail - so it wasn't unusual
for 1 person to buy 10-20-30 CD's!)

Addressing Speber;
I should have (if I would have been physically able) returned Musicophilia as quickly as possible. just looking at the chapters and the sections indicates the majority of the material he writes about are medical case studies, medical problems with music as a part of the equation, etc. In other words, I just do not see anything positive in the book. Another way of putting this is: I don't need to be reading about someone else's life ending in suicide when I am feeling depressed!

CSNY are great. Listened to them on my ipod during heart test. Was so fucused on music that it took a while to get my heart up to where they wanted it to check for any abnormalities.
