Hi My name is Bill and my 22 year old autistic son has seizures and as a result chronic right shoulder anterior dislocations, and the docs dont want to operate until he is seizure free for a year. How have those of you who have similar situations dealt with this? We have been able to reeduce him MANY times, but lately, not so much.
We appreciate any help you guys may be!
Thanks in advance,
Bill Walker

Hi bill, welcome to CWE!

I'm sorry you and your son are having to deal with this. I've had two shoulder operations to deal with damage from the multiple dislocations, so I'm very sympathetic.

In the meantime, can he wear a shoulder brace to help prevent additional dislocations? Something like this:
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/EVS-SB02-Shoulder-Brace-Large/dp/B001A6RZMO/ref=pd_sim_sg_4"]EVS SB02 Shoulder Brace - Large/Black : Amazon.com : Automotive@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41hJE432K1L.@@AMEPARAM@@41hJE432K1L[/ame]

And are there any physical therapy exercises he can safely do that will strengthen the other muscles that help hold the shoulder in place (particularly the muscles in the area of the shoulder blade)?

shoulder dislocations

Josh saw a sports medicine guy yesterday who prescribed both physical therapy and the brace, so, we will see how that goes! He usually hates anything like that, but I am hoping to slowly get him used to it. I will keep everybody posted.
Thanks again!
Bill
