Hi, My name is Aubri. My husband Michael had his first nocturnal seizure of many ( i lost count after 20) in 2008 at age 38. He has seen several Doctors and the MRI revealed scarring on his brain. They think it's due to his blood pressure dropping too low at some point in his life and in turn causing the brain scar. However this is just a hypothesis since they don't REALLY know what caused the scarring. Michael was on Dilantin and is currently taking Keppra XR 750mg. He still has seizures on his meds. Does anyone else here have this same diagnosis or nocturnal seizures? This has been a tremendous stress on our life and this web site will allow us to meet people struggling with the same issue. Thanks and we look forward to getting to know all of you!

Hi Aubri and Michael!

At 36 yrs old I have two scars on my right frontal lobe and they are doing a stronger MRI on me in June to see if they can discover more. They don't know why I have the scars either...although some have hypothesized that I may throw tiny clots because I have a tiny pulmonary arterial venous malformation. I too have low blood pressure. 90/50 even during pregnancies! Although for a long time they thought I was psychogenic but my seizures look more recognizable now so they changed their mind.
I have them at night (chewed up cheeks in the morning) but mine are not merely nocturnal. I continue to have seizures while on Keppra and ativan for bad days. I had a bad reaction to Dilantin though.
You guys are absolutely not alone in this! How are you all coping? The fact that you, Aubri came on here first makes me think that you guys are a supportive team working together though which is great. I don't know what I would do without my husband.
Is Michael still able to work? Are you able to sleep at night, or are you too worried?
Hang in there!

I have purely nocturnal seizures - fully aware when I am having them. For two years I averaged 70 a month. Since starting medication last year - Tegretol and clonazepam I am averaging 5 a month!
:)
