I've had double vision for over 7 years. It's gotten worse and worse through the years to the point that I've been having it almost once a day, sometimes twice. Two of the triggers that I noticed seem to cause it the most are being tired or worn out and going from being really warm to suddenly getting cold. A good bit of times it will happen when I get out of a bed warm bed (and not giving myself time to completely wake up), then suddenly taking a warm/hot shower, and then going into a cold room. I try to avoid doing these things but it's easier said than done at times. It will come on out of no where too.

A little over a week ago my contacts were bothering me so I took them out and put on my glasses. Since I've been wearing my glasses I haven't had double vision once! I've had feelings that it might be going to come on but it doesn't, not even a little bit.

I'm wondering if the contacts were something that was causing it? I'm going to keep wearing my glasses and see what happens.

Hi Valeried,

I find this very interesting I'm also wondering if it's the change in temperature that could be causing this. I know before I had surgery when I was taking a really hot shower it would trigger a seizure for me and my Dr. told me that was because the water was so hot that it would trigger seizures and fire up the neurons and maybe the same thing is happening with you in regards to the temperature changing.
The only other times I've had double vision is when my seizure med became toxic. You may want to call your neuro and see what he/she has to say about this but as long as wearing the glasses doesn't bother you I would keep wearing your glasses. Here's wishing you well and May God Bless You!

Dry eyes can cause or contribute to double vision -- there's a good chance that the contacts were drying out your eyes. So switching to glasses may have made that less of an issue.

I can take a shower then get out into a cold room when I'm fully awake and I don't get it.

My husband works night shift and will come home at 7am when I'm still in bed sleeping and say "Let's go to the grocery store". I'll get out of bed and get dressed, and not take a shower, but when we get into the grocery store that's a lot colder than it is outside because of the air conditioning it will come on. It seems like it only happens with temperature change is when it's a get up and go type of thing.

I've told my neuro about it and he's never really said anything about it. Since it's started to get worse he told me to see my PCP. I saw him about two weeks ago and he suggested seeing an optometrist. I'm going to hold off on that though unless it starts to happen again while I'm wearing my glasses since I haven't had.

I just hope my glasses don't fall apart because I bought the cheapest frames I could find since I never wear them! LOL

I know it's a side effect of two of the meds that I'm on but having dry eyes might have been helping it along the way faster.

I sometimes get some double vision after taking lamotrigine, usually an hour or so after taking it, doesn't last long, and I can refocus where it's not in any way debilitating. My optometrist and neurologist both told me it was a known side effect of lamotrigine.
