My 16 month old son started having seizures at 10 months. I've posted his story here before. He's had about 15 now in the last 6 months.
Both kids have had quite a flu for two weeks now. My son has has several seizures in the second week being sick. I think the vomiting and diarrhea is interfering with meds staying in his system.

Anyway, Sunday my daughter (39 months old) suddenly had an episode. She's never had anything resembling a seizure before. I completely panicked. I this was happening to the wrong child!

She was sitting at the table watching my iPad as I cleaned up lunch. I was talking to her about the robot vacuum. She used to be scared of it, but now she likes it. I turned away for a minute when I heard her. She was inhaling so hard it was like a loud reverse scream. Not sure how to explain it. I ran to her and her eye were huge, looking straight ahead, both arms up and a bit forward, and her upper body was leaning up and forward. I'm not sure, but she may have been almost standing from her booster seat.
She looked like someone in a horror movie who'd just seen the devil.

I grabbed her, grabbed the phone, called 911, and laid her down on her side. It was almost like she went limp when I picked her up. I could see her breathing.

When the paramedics arrived she was just laying there calmly. They talked to her a bit. What struck me as odd is she didn't seem to be exhausted like my son is after a seizure. Honestly, I'm now questioning what happened.

We spent the next 7 hours at the hospital. Cat scan and chest X-rays came back normal. Her blood work showed low blood sugar (was 55 about an hour and a half after and she's just eaten a bunch of marshmallows right before it happened.) follow up with her doctor yesterday and he said her sodium levels were also very low.

We are going to have her seen by the pedi neurologist too. I'm just still shocked as I never expected this for her too as she's older and figured she was in the clear. Maybe it wasn't a seizure even? I'm not really sure anymore.

She remembers everything about the conversation about the robot vacuum we had right before. She remembers the paramedics coming into the house too. She hasn't said anything about her loud scream inhale or that part.

Any body have any thoughts on what could have happened?

I am sorry to say I do not have any advice on what could have happened but I do want to say I am so sorry you are having to go thru this process potentially again. I am glad to hear you are going to the pedi neurologist. Please keep us informed!

Since her blood sugar was low, has the dr. considered juvenile diabetes? Sometimes when the blood sugar is low, it can bring on a seizure, or what appears to be a seizure. Does she complain of thirst?

Also, juvenile diabetes can interfere with sodium levels. I hope the dr. checks this out.
Good luck!

I doctor so far has even mentioned diabetes. Since both kids have been very sick for over two weeks now with both vomiting and diarrhea I think they assume its just the lack of food being absorbed. I will definitely ask a out this when we have out neurology appointment.

Thank you! I will update when I know more. Today I'm questioning weather or not what happened was even a seizure or if I'm just on constant seizure alert. Her pediatrician mentioned something about she CO2 levels, but now I can't recall what he said about them. Hi or low? Not sure and how if it correlated with seizure activity. Does anyone know what is typical with Co2 after a seizure?

How scary for you. I know with my 26month old when they started looking into his issues he had quite a few sugar tests as they said diabetes could cause some of symptoms. They still don't know exactly what is going on but for him they have a feeling it is metabolic and they are trying to do tests on him when his longer type of seizures happen, in particular the ones where he can't walk for over a couple of hours (longest period so far is around 26hrs) when he is like this he also has clusters of mini seziures. His metabolic specialist has given me a referal for blood and other tests to be done if he next has a period like this which goes for over 2hrs. I have to take him into the ED and hand them this referal for the tests to be done straight away. Of course he hasn't done any longer ones since then only shorter ones. I will admit I do worry that if his issues are caused by a chemical imbalance in his brain at thses times what damage it could be doing. Good luck with finding answers I am so sorry you are having to go through this with 2 children now.
Take Care.
