My 16 month old son started having seizures at 10 months. I've posted his story here before. He's had about 15 now in the last 6 months.
Both kids have had quite a flu for two weeks now. My son has has several seizures in the second week being sick. I think the vomiting and diarrhea is interfering with meds staying in his system.
Anyway, Sunday my daughter (39 months old) suddenly had an episode. She's never had anything resembling a seizure before. I completely panicked. I this was happening to the wrong child!
She was sitting at the table watching my iPad as I cleaned up lunch. I was talking to her about the robot vacuum. She used to be scared of it, but now she likes it. I turned away for a minute when I heard her. She was inhaling so hard it was like a loud reverse scream. Not sure how to explain it. I ran to her and her eye were huge, looking straight ahead, both arms up and a bit forward, and her upper body was leaning up and forward. I'm not sure, but she may have been almost standing from her booster seat.
She looked like someone in a horror movie who'd just seen the devil.
I grabbed her, grabbed the phone, called 911, and laid her down on her side. It was almost like she went limp when I picked her up. I could see her breathing.
When the paramedics arrived she was just laying there calmly. They talked to her a bit. What struck me as odd is she didn't seem to be exhausted like my son is after a seizure. Honestly, I'm now questioning what happened.
We spent the next 7 hours at the hospital. Cat scan and chest X-rays came back normal. Her blood work showed low blood sugar (was 55 about an hour and a half after and she's just eaten a bunch of marshmallows right before it happened.) follow up with her doctor yesterday and he said her sodium levels were also very low.
We are going to have her seen by the pedi neurologist too. I'm just still shocked as I never expected this for her too as she's older and figured she was in the clear. Maybe it wasn't a seizure even? I'm not really sure anymore.
She remembers everything about the conversation about the robot vacuum we had right before. She remembers the paramedics coming into the house too. She hasn't said anything about her loud scream inhale or that part.
Any body have any thoughts on what could have happened?
