I mean, both while postictal and in general, after a bout of seizures worse than usual.

I have TLE that's been especially acting up the past few weeks because of seasonal stress. Right after I have one I just want to sleep, of course, but even after several hours or even the next day I still have that lingering feeling of unreality or disconnectedness and it can be hard to get grounded again. After a more prolonged rough time, it's hard not to become discouraged. I'm curious what other people do.

What do you do to take care of yourself after seizures? Is there a self-care ritual that works for you?

For me it's like taking care of a hangover: Getting plenty of sleep if that's what my body requires, but also making sure I stay hydrated and fed, even if I'm not super-hungry. Meditation and relaxation exercises help too -- nothing fancy, just a few 5 minute breaks several times a day for slow breathing and stretching. Sometimes it also helps to listen to "brainfood" cd-mixes. I have one that's just the sound of a babbling brook, and others that are happy funky music.

I know what you mean. It can really take it out of you. I have a routine that helps after a 'bout'. Peace, quiet and rest. For me, absolutely no bright lights, tv, music or 'screens'. As I recover, gentle background sounds and conversation help so I don't feel completely disconnected. Eventually, going outside and resting on a lounge on the deck so I can be in nature (if it isn't too bright.) I cannot even look at food so staying hydrated is a challenge but important. As I recover, easy to digest and mild things seem to help. All in all, gentle and soothing would be a good way to describe what works for me. Do you have anyone nearby? I know for me, having caring people around can make all the difference sometimes.

Sending you hugs

When I was having my CPS, sleep was number one on my list.
I would always sleep for 4+ hours. Even after I'd still be tired. I would find something to do
to relax my mind. That could be watch reruns on tv, build with LEGO, use my PC, listen to music. Anything that I could get lost in, without adding more stress onto myself.

You just need to find the right mix that works for you.

I listen to music or have game on computer,I totally relate to what you mean

A CD mix or a playlist sounds like a good idea! Seems so obvious but I've never thought of it.

After a grand mal/tonic seizure I feel exhausted and have severe headaches and body aches. like the other people indicated I spend almost the whole day sleeping or in a quiet place. My memory seems to be out of whack so I try to focus on my surroundings until I remember people and things better. I have that disconnected feeling you are talking about also and I can't do anything but wait for it to dissipate. Quiet music is good therapy.

I pass out after the seizure and sleep. If I'm tired the next day, and even the day after that, I'll sleep too. My body and brain just don't want to do any moving around, just sleep.
