I'm not really sure what amnesia is specifically. I find that it seems like my sleep patterns are out of sync. I'm not sure how accurate fitness trackers are when they track your sleep. Me Fitbit shows that I am up a few times through the night and my sleep is very restless.

I am going to a sleep apnea clinic that I was referred to be my family doctor when I told her inconsistent/poor sleep patterns.

Anybody else seem to have issues with their sleep patterns/sleep in general?

Waking up at numerous points during the night is certainly an indicator of sleep apnoea, though it helps if you have a partner who can tell you if you wake up snoring, or have brief lapses in breathing during the night. Some people are just really light sleepers though, and don't remember it in the morning.

I have problems with my sleep in that i sleep like the dead and far too much lol. I could sleep on a washing line during a hurricane. Which sounds fantastic until it actually happens to you!

Definitely worth going to the sleep apnoea clinic. I don't know if it's the same in Canada, but over here that clinic can also refer you for other tests if they believe something else may be going on (like for a polysomnogram) to figure out why you're not getting quality sleep.

Before getting my meds straightened out, I was waking up (kind of) during simple partial seizures at night. I usually didn't notice it, but my wife did. It would have shown up as a waking period on any tracker. It took a sleep study/eeg to figure out what the problem was. I think your problem sounds like apnea, though. ;)

Waking Up While Sleeping

gnault,
I speak from experience about waking while sleeping. I was having this happen to me, so I had a sleep study scheduled. I found out as a result of this sleep study that I had a severe case of sleep apnea. After I was prescribed a CPAP machine and started to use it, I realized that I was feeling much better and that the number of auras that occured for me dropped significantly.
This is something that can be helpful for anyone who has E, and they should have a sleep study done!

People don't always snore with sleep apnea. Obstructive sleep apnea is better known but our child's surgeon noted central sleep apnea could also be an issue. Last EEG showed sleep architecture problems and we've since dealt with some pressing issues that didn't resolve sleep problems so we have a sleep specialist referral in the works. Sleep issues occur in a higher percentage of epilepsy patients than in the general population.

Hi gnault,

My Epileptologist found I had seizures in my sleep but I didn't even realize it. I felt tired in the morning when I woke up so a sleep study along with a e.e.g. and e.k.g. was done on me for 24 hrs. and that's when my Dr. found out I was having seizures in my sleep 1-2 hrs. before I woke up. I also found out that the drug I take vimpat can cause sleep disorders so be sure to check with your pharmacist to see if maybe any seizure meds aren't causing the problem. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Sue

Very true. In addition, CSA can be caused and/or made worse by any medication that is a Central Nervous System depressant as are many AED's.

Hi Gnault,

With me, I don't seem to need much sleep. Four hours is enough. If I get 6 or more hours, I feel horrible. I guess we're all different. :ponder:
I hope you feel better.

I routinely sleep 12 hours a night. I have since the beginning of 2014. I've read that some people just need more sleep than others and that this can be normal. It's caused a lot of problems at work because of coming in late, etc. I'm going in for a sleep study in 3 weeks and we'll see what comes of it.

Soooo tired

I need to sleep at least 12 each night, with over powering sleepiness and weakness during the day. Some days I sleep all day, other than to take meds and use the bathroom.
I also have central sleep apnea and use a bi-PAP machine.
I have also had my thyroid checked and am taking a med for that.
My family Dr also had me start taking a large dose of Vitamin D3.
I still sleep so much and suffer from daytime sleepiness.

My seizures are now under control taking Vimpat and Keppra, so I am scared to change my meds. I asked my Dr to reduce my Keppra since starting the Vimpat slowed then stopped my seizures. I was 4 months seizure free when the Keppra was reduced and I had a seizure within the week. I went back to the dosage I was on.
I sleep all the time but I have now been seizure free for 1 1/2 years.
I have had to give up my job because of this but if I have to compare being seizure free and sleeping all the time vs having seizures 4 times a week and being knocked out tired from the seizure for days anyway, my Dr and I have decided seizure free is the better alternative.
:ponder:

My sleep apnea test came back saying I had some issues sleeping on my back but other than that no sleep apnea.

Less than a week and I go for my sleep deprived EEG. Maybe being that tired afterwards will help me get a good night sleep. Maybe that will help show if there might be something else out of whack in brain causing sleep issues.
