Can steroids cause seizures?

It seems anytime that I'm put on steroids I have more seizures than usual so I try not to go on them unless I really need to.

I got horrible poison ivy all over my body about two weeks ago and the dermologist suggested a low dose of steroids to get rid of it. I didn't know that it took weeks/months for poison ivy to go away. I decided that I could deal with the seizures instead of scratching the skin off my body. I'm going to be surprised if I don't end up with scars from scratching so much!

I have had a good bit of seizures since I've been on them, sometimes more than one a day. Luckily they haven't been very bad ones.

Does anyone else have more seizures when they are on steroids?

Thanks

My husband and I sort of put two and two together a few years ago when I was getting steroids for back pain. We asked the neuro about it and he said that it could be a trigger for the large number of seizures I was having at the time.

I tried a lot of different things for the poison ivy but after 3 days my eyes swelled half shut, my legs and arms were as itchy as could be and I had blisters so bad on my fingers that I couldn't write or pick things up, this was when I decided to go on them.

The prednisone pills ended today so hopefully I'll be back to normal. If what you want to call what I am is normal :roflmao:

Sorry I missed this one. My son was prescribed Predisone quite a bit as a child because he had a bad case of asthma. When he couldn't breathe even after treatment on the nebulizer, the dr. prescribed Prednisone. It made him sooooooooo hyper he wouldn't fall asleep at night. My docs told me never to take Predisone as it can bring on seizures.

I hope you're itchiness as subsided.

When I first started taking the predisone, the strongest dosage, I couldn't fall asleep. When I took the first dose it was 5am before I fell asleep. The second and third night when it reached 3am and I still wasn't asleep I took some tylonol pm just to fall asleep. As the dosages decreased I was finally able to fall asleep at a normal time. When I read the side effects of it that was one of them.

When I was little I was also on predisone for a muscle disorder that I had. I'm not sure if I was hyper or not but my family probably just loved it if I was.

I'm pretty much done scratching. The only thing that's itchy now are my legs and I think that's only because it's got a ton of dry skin on them.
