Hello Everyone!

I moved to Denver recently and I'm having a lot of cool new things happening on the epilepsy front! For example, my epileptologist said I'm potentially having seizures in both my LTL and parietal lobes. Super weird. Anyway, I'm going to have a VNS implanted soon, but before we do that I'm going in to the hospital for a video EEG. I've been told that it's super boring, so I'm bringing my own work (dissertation), my students' work (grading), plus movies, books, and other things to pass the time. I was wondering what comforting things should/can I bring? I read online to bring a pillow and comfy clothes (button down PJs). The lady I spoke with said that I will have control over the room's temperature, but I still plan on bringing my own blanket. I also purchased things to clean myself and hold back my hair since I know I won't be able to bathe.

What about food or snacks? Any other suggestions? They said I will potentially be there for 5-7 days, although if they get a good assortment of seizures from the various regions of my brain, I can go home in 24-48 hours.

Thanks!!

It sounds like you've got a good list. Definitely bring your own pillows.
Also bring something that will keep you busy or entertained if they ask you to stay up all night for sleep deprivation

Like i see u got all the entretainment down but patience its a big thing to set ur mind up for good luck!!

Good luck with your monitoring! Looks like you pretty much have it covered...my monitoring was a really long time ago, but I took a lot of the same things you mention here and ended up mostly just reading, writing, and watching TV. It was very boring, but there were actually a lot of people in-and-out doing different stuff, so the time went by pretty fast for me.

It sounds like you'll have a private room, which is great. Might be nice to have a photo or two of things that make you happy (you may already have those with you on your laptop or cellphone of course).

Thanks everyone! I am worried about snacks and being strapped to the bed, but I guess I'll see how this goes.

I'm doing this at the moment. I'm on day two? It is super boring but mostly I'm fine with my phone just remember your charger. Its good because I'm doing stuff I've been meaning to do for ages like reading and writing and that.

Re snacks, they told me not to bring gum as chewing messes up the recording or something. So I don't know, maybe check.

Best of luck to you!

I'm incredibly bored, too, and for some weird reason I haven't had a big seizure! I had a lot of auras yesterday, but NOTHING. It's like my brain knows it's being watched and I am "seizure constipated." Oh, it's so annoying. We're doing another night of sleep deprivation and they gave me some medication that has caused seizures in the past. Keep your fingers crossed!

I hadn't had anything either until last night when I had a "nice" long tonic clonic.
I was beginning to feel a bit guilty, like I was lying to them or something.

Hope you have something soon. In the nicest possible way.
