being forced to get a second opinion from a neurologist and/or epidemiologist ,
Would anyone force a family member to seek treatment or be institutionalized
Or has it happen to some one you know or your self.

A second opinion doesn't seem too bad- I often get one myself when I'm not happy with an original diagnosis.

If a family member is really worried, and no longer unable to provide care- sometimes sectioning/institutionalizing is the only way they can provide real help.

Of course, this all depends upon the condition it's for, and the situation.

I've been sectioned 3 times by the local constabulary because they weren't able to deal with post-ictal psychosis.

Which condition are you referring to?

I was referring to my seizure disorder and my family wanting me to get a second
Opinion after witnessing a resent seizure, which I am not wanting to after 1 1/2- 2years after dia of probable PNES .
Under stated threat I have a forced choice to go on my own free will or be taken after family contacts a social worker and goes through process and force me to have testing and second opinion.
My thoughts are not in line with reasonable adults , I believe in choice .

Sometimes those who love us know what is better for us than we do ourselves. I would listen to them. Besides, you say "probable" PNES. Wouldn't you like to know for sure? Whether psychogenic or epileptic, a proper diagnosis can lead to appropriate treatment and a better life.

I've lost count how many neuro's I've been to weather it's been neurologist or Epileptologist. They have all said the same thing about me and the so called specialist don't know a thing more than my neuro. The specialist didn't read my files to find out what I couldn't take.I had docs try to put me on meds that I knew I'd be med resistant to because they were in a certain family. My neuro knew why I was having problems and he was was just a very intelligent man who was a professor at a university /hospital at one time.

I also believe in choice. I also believe in the reward of getting a second opinion. If the dr. you've seen says "probable" PNES, then that is all the more reason to go forward and get another opinion. I suggest you go see an epileptologist at a major University for that 2nd opinion. They know a whole lot more about epilepsy than a regular neurologist. Perhaps they can make a "real" diagnosis of whether you do or don't have E. Either way, you do need to see someone to figure out what is going on. If it's PNES, what's causing it? You need therapy. If it's really E, then you need to get it under control ASAP. Seizures beget seizures. It will only get worse with time.

Concerned family members are not wanting to give accurate description of witnessed episodes to doctors , so it makes me seem like a hypochondriac seeking attention or wanting to have a certain condition's , which seems unfair to given my medical history which as a minor is not in your control
